Cat's Eye (Lehsuniya) : Significance, Benefits, Facts and Wearing Rituals.

Hola Guys! Hope you all are keeping well and in good spirits. Today's post marks the end of my current series on Different Gemstones according to the nine main Planets in the Vedic Astrology.

This post is on the gemstone related to the other Shadowy or Illusionary Planet Ketu i.e. the Southern Node of the Moon. The gemstone is called "Cat's Eye". Also known as 'Lehsuniya' in Hindi as its resemblance to a milky Garlic bulb (Lussan in Hindi).

This Gemstone produces the most distinct 'Cat's Eye' or "CHATOYANCE" effect. Contains high density of parallel fibrous inclusions and 'Cat's eye' is a line of light that reflects from the dome of the cabochon at the right angles to the parallel inclusions. When the gem is rotated while the light is flashed on the gem, it gives an image of the opening and closing of an eye of a cat, hence the name is "Cat's Eye".

It has immense benefits to the wearer if it is worn by proper consultation from the learned astrologer and happens to suit you. These are as follows:

  • Very beneficial for improving fortunes and financial gains especially during its Mahadasha.
  • It aids in rendering the psychic protection such as that from evil eyes and Tantric acts.
  • It is the stone of choice for enhancing the spiritual enlightenment of oneself.
  • It is very beneficial in improving your physical, mental and emotional well being.
  • It also gives the native a sense of calmness and peace especially in cases of insomnia and anxiety issues.
  • It also aids in enhancing your appetite when someone suffers from anorexia and also issues related to Heart, brain and stomach.
  • It also improves the memory of the wearer and helps in attaining the art of balancing one's thought process.
  • This stone is beneficial in eradication of fear of unknown or any sort of pessimism one has which makes a native more self- assured in terms of facing the worldly challenges.
  • According to one's natal chart, if the stone gets suited to the wearer, it has healing powers to lessen the mal-effects of the Ketu Doshas that can be seen in one's birth chart.
  • It boosts one's creativity and helps in enhancing the native's intellect.
  • The stone has potential to reduce the ill-effects or nullify the sufferings from any mishaps that's probably due to Ketu's mal-position in one's chart.

How to choose a Cat's eye?

As I have mentioned in my previous blog-

Apart from these the other characteristics that should be considered while choosing a Cat's eye gemstone are:

  • The best Cat's eye is unheated, untreated and naturally which gives the best astrological benefits to the native.

  • The colour of the Cat's eye is Yellow to Yellowish-grey, Greyish-green to brown and Brownish yellow. If the colour is too light or too dark then it might be a fake stone or of semi-precious variety.

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Cat's eye is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected such a  Parallel needle or Hollow tube-like fibrous inclusions- a line of light across surface of the stone that orients perpendicular to the induced fibres. The gem has a milky appearance and transparent gems are almost never found. Typically 'Milk and Honey Appearance' is seen.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Cat's eye is 7.5-8.5.

  • Its chemical composition and the mineral is known as Chrysoberyl(BeO.Al2O3).

  • Its refractive index is 1.744-1.755.

  • There should be uniformity of colour in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines and blemishes.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.

  • How to identify an original Cat's eye?

    • If the real stone is put in the dark place, it shines like the eyes of a cat.
    • If the original stone is rubbed against a cloth, it gives more brilliance to it which marks its authenticity.
    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original Cat's eye will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • The colour of the original stone should not be too dark or vivid.
    • Keep the stones in your hand. If it starts feeling warm or hot, then it isn't the original one.
    • No significant inclusions will be there in original Cat'e eye. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones.

It is an organic gemstone formed in the deep sea (over 500 feet deep) by marine creatures known as Coral Polyps i.e. Corallium rubrum. Its red colour represents the blood and perseverance in human lives. Mainly worn for sports, leadership, competition, business and health. Mars is the God of war and passion. It represents energy, vitality and ambition in one's chart. Red coral is used to enhance the significations of the planet Mars.

It also boosts the energy of the wearer and helps in overcoming his/her enemies be it any war field. Renders courage and enthusiasm for combating any struggle in our road to success. Helps in putting you on actions so that you leave your lethargy and start working on your goals.  Relieves mental and physical suffering and reduces depression, fear, insecurities and anxiety caused by delaying and denials. Under certain conditions, this stone proves beneficial in reducing mal effects of planetary combinations causing suffering whether it is aggressiveness or problems in marital life. Strength, longevity and passion in a marriage can be improved by wearing this stone. Increases your self-confidence and self-reliance. Can also enhance your financial situation by clearing your debts and borrowings.

How to choose a Red Coral?

As I have mentioned in my previous blog-

Apart from these the other characteristics that should be considered while choosing a Blue sapphire gemstone are:

  • The best Red coral is unheated, untreated and naturally formed in the deep seas which gives the best astrological benefits to the native.

  • The colour of the Red coral is Deep red to soft pink. If the colour is too light or too dark then it might be a fake stone or of semi-precious variety.

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Red coral is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected but should be very less for it to be the original one. As red corals won't have any significant inclusions at all.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Red coral is 3-4.

  • Its chemical composition is Calcium carbonate, magnesia and organic substance.

  • Its refractive index is 1.486-1.658.

  • Its specific gravity is 2.6-2.7.

  • The best quality Blue sapphire comes from Italy. The other places include Australia, Sri-Lanka, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, Algeria and the USA.

  • The average density is 2.65.

  • It should be at least 6 carats in weight so as to give prominent results. In general, it should be 1/10th of your body weight.

  • There should be uniformity of colour in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines and blemishes.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.

  • How to identify an original Red Coral?

    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original red coral will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • The colour of the original stone should not be too dark or vivid.
    • Keep the stones in your hand. If it starts feeling warm or hot, then it isn't the original one.
    • Red coral is a fragile stone and is also heat and chemical sensitive. So if you get any harder stone resistant to heat and chemicals, it is probably the fake one.

    • No inclusions will be there in original red coral. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones.
    • If you are getting the red coral at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original red corals are expensive. While the synthetic red coral comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.
