The Pearl(Moti) - Pretty and Placid Gemstone: Significance, Benefits, Facts and Wearing Rituals.

Hey everyone! Hope you are coming back to normalcy gradually and are safe wherever you are. Today's post is about the beautiful and pious pearl which works both as a piece of jewellery and an astrological gemstone. Pearl is worn for the Moon in Vedic astrology. It signifies factors that pertain to Moon. It is very famous and found in deep ocean beds. It is found to have a calming effect and healing properties. Strengthens the powers of Moon in your horoscope and render the wearer sense of calm, peace, the stability of thoughts, softness in one's approach, ease the temper, radiance in one's aura and neutralizes the mal effects of other planets to some extent (judged after a thorough analysis of birth chart). Increases memory and brainpower and brings fortune in general. It is also known to bring harmony in relationships. Other than these, can be worn to combat certain problems such as eye problems, throat issues, body fluids/blood-related troubles to an extent.

How to choose a Pearl?

As I have mentioned in my previous blog-

Apart from these the other characteristics that should be considered while choosing a Pearl gemstone are:

  • The best pearl is unheated, untreated and naturally occurring, composed of calcium carbonate formed by oysters which gives the best astrological benefits to the native.

  • The colour of the Pearl is white, pink, silver, cream, golden, green, blue and black sometimes.

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Pearl is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected but should be very less for it to be the original one. Natural pearls are the most flawless pearls. Has much purity and light scattering effect.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Pearl is 2.5-4.5.

  • Its chemical composition is Calcium carbonate i.e. CaCO3.

  • Its specific gravity is 2.60-2.85.

  • The best quality Pearl comes from India, Venezuela and the Persian Gulf.

  • The average density is 2.7.

  • It should be at least 4-6 carats or 7-8 Ratti (1200-1400mg) in weight so as to give prominent results. In general, it should be 1/10th of your body weight.

  • There should be uniformity of colour and in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines, blemishes and bubbles.

  • Its lustre and radiance should be appreciated from the naked eye.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.

  • How to identify an original Pearl?

    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original Pearl will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • Only microscopic natural inclusions will be there in original Pearl. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones.
    • The natural pearl, in majority cases, would be of irregular shape. The perfect round or oval pearl is rare to find.
    • If you are getting the Pearl at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original ones are expensive. While the synthetic Pearl comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • The original pearl has dep lustre and reflects the nearby objects with its radiance and lustre.
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.

    How to wear Pearl?

    • Should Strictly be worn only after the consultation by the learned astrologer.
    • Should be worn on Monday of waxing moon period (Shukla Paksha).
    • Should be worn in between the two hours before and after the sunrise.
    • The best metal to wear it in is Silver, Platinum or White Gold. Those who can't or don't want to imbibe it in can make it in Panchdhaatu (an alloy of 5 elements Gold, Silver, Iron, Zinc and Copper. Sometimes Tin or Lead can be used in place of Zinc).

Rituals related to wearing a Pearl.

    • Dip it in a Panchamrit (a mixture of raw cow milk, cow fat i.e Ghee, honey or sugar, yoghurt and Gangajal i.e. Holy water) one night before the morning you wanna wear it.
    • In the morning, do your prayer rituals as you do in routine. Wash the ring with regular water and dip it in holy water just before wearing it.
    • Always seek blessings of Almighty and pray to them for the fulfilment of the purpose for which you are gonna wear the gemstone.
    • The "Beej Mantra- Ohm Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah" or Ohm Som Somaya Namah" to be recited 108 times so as to activate the stone.
    • You should feed the poor and needy with white sweets, especially on Mondays. (This is the most pious thing and should be done anyways without any purpose or wanting anything in return. We should feed anything in any day we want but for this, Monday is preferable).
    • Keep your stones clean.
